Paddy Keenan is a well-known figure in Uilleann Piping circles and indeed in the greater world of music. He is an un-rivalled exponent of the pipes and he ranks as a supreme virtuoso to all that know him. He grew up in Ballyfermot, Dublin. Along with his father John Keenan and his brothers they were very influential in the Dublin music scene in the late 60’s and early 70’s. They ran a regular gig in Slattery’s of Capel St. Dublin “The Pavee Club”. Many memorable nights of music were enjoyed there. Paddy joined “The Bothy Band “ when it was formed, it was often said that he was the “engine room” of the band because of his distinctive and pulsating rhythm. Since the band’s break-up Paddy has carved out a solo career, he now resides in America where he is continually touring and recording. He carries the great legacy of the “Travelling Piper” wherever he goes.
